Who We Are

The Horsemanship Journey of a Lifetime

Julia Wertz, a second-generation horsewoman, has been immersed in horsemanship from a young age. She was born with a passion for horses, and spent her early years spending hours with her family horses, learning natural horsemanship due to her mom’s experiences. Through this time she sparked an ability to assess horses’ behavior, perform at liberty, and help problem horses find solutions to be better partners.

In early adult life she knew she wanted to be a horse trainer so she went straight into honing her skills and learning many new ones through internships with world-class horsemen and women. Their expertises ranged from dressage and English sport horses to colt starting and creating Californio Vaquero-style bridle horses.

She spent years developing these skills further while starting and riding training horses for the public, teaching, and day working as a buckaroo on ranches throughout the West. She understands that horses as your partner for both play and work create meaningful relationships with solid foundations.

She continues helping students create trust-based partnerships with horses. Her passion for teaching drives her to help others unlock potential, build confidence, and find joy through horsemanship.

Blending her wide background Julia employs a comprehensive, well-rounded approach aimed at building strong foundations for any discipline.

Her goal is to foster success, confidence, and harmony in every horse and rider she works with.

Christine Wertz founded Harmony Horsemanship Center in 2010 to fulfill her vision of a haven for community and self improvement through horses. With over 40 years of teaching experience in addition to her prior years of riding experience, she has the knowledge for what it takes to create an exceptional learning environment.

She has had certification with the American Riding Instructor Program, experience from showing several breeds and disciplines of horses, and a deep understanding of natural horsemanship. She brings together her wealth of knowledge to provide a foundation of excellence for Harmony Horsemanship Center.

She has successfully brought her ideas to life in the form of a warm and welcoming environment that produces independent and responsible young riders, adults who have increased their confidence and capabilities, and horses that are truly happy with their lives.

After a long and successful teaching career, her primary focus is to enjoy her own horses and continue to see that care for boarding horses is top tier. Her passion for horses is evident in her care for them, as she treats every horse as if it were her own.
